He adored books, guarded them like memories. He never lent them….unless one earned it. I did, once, after a long , winding debate.
When I picked my first book, he said, “Books are like life. You don’t abandon them midway. No matter how dull they may be. Because life offers no U-turns.”
Some books had bookmarks, pages left unread.
“You tried going back?” I asked. He paused.
“Tried…. in books and in life. But once you leave something behind…..” His voice faltered.
“You never return the same. Some doors never open once closed.”
