THE LOST LIGHT

Every night, she drew the curtains to let the soft glow of the string lights pour in through the window. But to-nite, when she drew the curtains, there were no lights.
She remembered that she had asked for the lights to be taken down. The festival season was long over. The lights had given her hope against the dark.
In the silence that followed, she realised, it wasn’t the lights she missed but the version of herself who glowed like them.
And that version was never coming back.
