Why would anyone reply in ‘hmmm’ instead of a simple yes or no?
Is it a state of confusion?
A sign of frustration?
Or hesitation?
May be in agreement..
Or a slight pause before disagreement,
An indication of disinterest?
To express suspicion,
Or demanding clarification?
May be a silent desperate fight to control one’s emotions,
Or a small sigh before quitting…..
But lately, a slow hmmm had become a convenient reply for her to avoid all difficult inevitable questions.
