Winters felt much colder this time. She would often wake up in the nights feeling cold only to find that she had forgotten to close the window or that the blanket that had covered her clumsily was down on the floor.
Staying alone gave a sense of independence but it wasn’t always as cozy. It wasn’t the same as staying with parents when dad would check the doors and windows long after she had been asleep, while mom would ensure that her daughter was warmly covered throughout the night checking innumerable times for the fallen blanket.
